Abandon hope all ye ........

New Labour Information Minister, Hazel Blears, on Radio 4′ The Westminster Hour, last night:
The next election will be won and lost in those super-marginals like Crawley, Hove, Harlow, Dartford, Swindon. These are the places where we’ve got to go out and fight for what we believe in. And, actually, if we in the Labour Party really are talking about the things that people are interested in about the state of their streets, the police, vandalism, the NHS, getting a decent education for their children, that’s how we’ll win the election, that will motivate Labour member’s and supporters.

So, if you are not in one of those super-marginals, tough. Labour/Arbeit does not intend to waste time getting out and about to see what you may currently be thinking about the state of the streets, the police, vandalism, the NHS, getting a decent education for your children, or how they will win the election. Even a rudimentary scan of any paper; whatever their political stance; will show outthe problems and failures. People do not want to discuss these - no discussion is needed. What they would appreciate is some sure and firm committment to do something about these problems. But then, the public are dealing with politicians so when did they ever have te chance of a fair and straight deal?

I set out my stall above with the intention of a good and detailed analysis. But, you know what? I've lost the drive. Nothing will improve. There will be no changes. Sure, we will have promises that the expenditure of yet more of our money will change things. Acres of forest will be sacrificied in promulgating new quick-fix legislation that will baffle and overpower those meant to apply it.

We are doomed.

And the world scene is no better.
